A New Function
In addition to this home’s exterior renovation, it also underwent an extensive remodel on the inside. The original floor plan in this ranch style home featured only a living room. The owners wanted their living room to be a more formal place to greet and entertain guests. Yet, they also wanted a space that was relaxed, and would accommodate casual, comfortable furniture and their media center.
One of the home's four bedrooms, adjacent to the living room was converted to a new den. To accomplish this, an interior closet and the ‘coat closet’ (accessible from living room) were removed. An opening was created between living room and the new den space, complete with 5-paneled pocket doors—this allows the room to be closed off from the living room and also provides privacy for an overnight quest. The room was finished with bungalow styled trim, re-painted and new carpeting installed. A panel of three windows was custom built and installed in the shared wall of the den and the interior hallway. These windows allow light to pour into the hall and are also an attractive addition to the den.
